Hangin' @ Heathrow

I arrived in London this morning with my friend and travel partner, Emily Witt. We had originally planned to spend a couple hours exploring London between our flights (we have about a 7 hour layover), but because of delays in Chicago we have a little less time in London and the commute from the airport seemed a little daunting. So, we're spending the day in the airport. It shouldn't be too bad--I have a new book and a couple magazines (plus my computer).

The flight here was fine, although a little turbulent. I tried to sleep most of the way, but as always, it was tough to find that perfect sleeping position. . .

I've already overheard some great airport conversations. One girl, sitting near me at a cafe, commented that Midwest and Southern accents have "devolved" the English language. I had no idea how harmful my accent is to the English language; I'll have to try to pick more of a South African twang in the next couple months. She went on to sing some Garth Brooks which she learned from some Midwestern girls at Notre Dame. Hopefully, I'll overhear some more conversations to help me pass the time.

Sitting in the airport, I am certainly aware of how soon I'll be in Cape Town. I'm starting to get a little nervous--its scary not to know what to expect. However, it is comforting to know that I'm traveling with Emily and we'll be going through things together.

More exciting posts to follow from South Africa!!

I bought a pack!

As my first blog post (and as a test post before I leave for South Africa), I will tell you all about my new travel pack. . .Exciting, I know. . . I just bought it at Uncle Dan's--the young woman who helped me was great. The pack is green and gray; I chose a pretty small pack to fit my frame. Hopefully, it will serve me well throughout my travels in South Africa and on safari.
